Mixed metal oxide anodes are titanium tubes, rods, or wires with a mixed metal oxide coating. Mixed metal oxide is a crystalline, electrically conductive coating that activates the titanium and enables it to function as an anode.

As a result of the low consumption rate of MMO anodes, the dimensions remain nearly constant during the life of the anode providing a consistently low resistance. Other MMO anode types include conductor bar, current distributor, disk, canister, power feed connection, and ribbon. These anodes are also available with a variety of canisters and cables.

Rectifiers

Cathodic Protection Rectifiers

JA Electronics offers advanced impressed current systems for effective cathodic protection. Our custom current system components are available with a variety of enclosure, safety and protection options. For durability, rectifier panels have all markings engraved; no adhesive labels or silk screening is used. System components are built to your specifications and also included, the assistance of our trained and service oriented support personnel.

Custom Air Cooled Rectifiers: Our wall mounted or pole mounted, convection air-cooled rectifiers are powered by dual AC input voltages of 120/240 or 240/480 volts, and with the quality and durability of heavy duty transformers, 20% capacity over-design, and JA Electronics’ industry-leading design. Also standard are silicon modular diode rectifier bridges, with AC and DC zinc oxide varistor (ZNR) surge protection. Options include variac output control and meter switches, thermal or fully-magnetic circuit breakers, and 115-volt convenience outlets.

Oil Cooled Series Rectifiers: Enclosed in a nonclassified or explosion-proof tank, these oil-immersed cathodic protection rectifiers are constructed with lifting eyes, with a lockable, hinged top, and with fins for added cooling and strength. Separate transformer and stack rack assemblies are provided for easy removal and servicing. The construction of the explosion proof housing option is classified for use in areas with flammable vapors. Single or three-phase input available.

JA Electronics portable test rectifiers quickly and efficiently determine your rectifier and groundbed needs, saving time and money by getting your system designed accurately the first time. For existing systems, the portable test rectifier becomes a convenient and durable troubleshooting tool.

Rectifier or solar protection units may be customized for your specific application and enclosure requirements. Multiple rectifier units per cabinet, special mounting, auto-potential or non-standard tap outputs are available, as well as sun shields fitted to oil-cooled rectifier tanks.

Another specialized CP product, the wall-mounted Service Station Rectifier, brings JA Electronics cathodic protection quality to the protection of service station underground piping and storage tanks. Our reverse current switch protects the CP system from occasional extreme-voltage induced currents in the reverse direction.

Solar Cathodic Protection Units

Modern photovoltaic (solar) powered solutions from JA Electronics allow your project to be protected by an impressed current corrosion prevention system where AC mains can not reach.

JA Electronics manufactures the Omega II® solar-powered cathodic protection controller for the corrosion prevention industry. These controllers differ from rectifiers, because they are powered by the sun’s energy rather than by commercial AC power. Some engineers call them solar cathodic protection rectifiers, because they provide power to the impressed current system in the same way as a mains-powered rectifier.

All JA Electronics solar powered solutions use the patented Omega II circuitry to provide a durable, proven Solar CP controller for system control and longevity. Since 1998, we have provided many complete solar powered cathodic protection systems and retrofit units for installation across the USA.

Reliable Kyocera® solar arrays power these units (manufacturer warranties applicable) and gel-cell batteries made specifically for solar applications insure efficient storage of solar power to protect your structures. These controllers deliver the same quality and performance that have built JA Electronics’ reputation for excellence in corrosion prevention.

Even if the majority of your project is within reach of AC mains for cathodic protection, you may be able to improve the protection of your overall system by installing one or more solar powered units in areas where commercial power is not convenient.

Solar powered protection units are supplied in base mount and pole mount varieties. The pole mount solution includes a two-piece pole and enclosure assembly for easy installation and maintenance. The pole assembly is also used as a conduit for the ground bed leads.

For installations requiring a large number of solar panels or additional batteries, a base-mount solution is also available. On all solar cathodic protection products, separate day and night output control is provided to allow reduced output at night. The two outputs may be set at any time of the day or night.

Only mil-spec components are used in our solar powered controller boards. These systems are equipped with over-current and over-voltage protection on the input and output sides, and also protected from lightning damage on the input and output sides.

All solar cathodic protection units from JA Electronics are covered by a one-year warranty against defects in components and craftsmanship.

Omega II® Cathodic Protection Bridge/Controller

The Omega II controller provides an extremely low ripple DC output, to improve the quality of your impressed current cathodic protection system. In the images below, notice that the AC component of the unfiltered output of a rectifier system measures over 8.8v RMS, while it is less than 0.1v in the Omega II system output.

The Omega II bridge/controller can be installed in new cathodic protection rectifiers, or a replacement kit can be provided for existing rectifier units. With this technology from JA Electronics, the output power to your protected structures has 5% or less output ripple, compared to 45% ripple on standard units.

The patented Omega II technology has been proven in Industrial Drives, UPS Systems, and other critical reliability applications. Today it is installed in all JA Electronics solar-powered impressed current systems. And you can put it to work in your corrosion prevention system.

Other Standard Features:

  • 5 – 100% DC output adjustment capabilities using dial potentiometer
  • Easy to install, operate, and maintain
  • Compact design, with dial adjust knob
  • Constant voltage mode operation
  • Current limiting and over-current protection through “fold-back” voltage
  • Controls and regulates the DC output, rather than the AC input of the transformer/rectifier
  • No decrease in rectifier efficiency on the low end output
  • Provisions for remote monitoring and remote control
  • Automatic shutdown under short-circuit conditions
  • Available in DC ratings of 25 amps and 50 amps

The ZincMat® anode-grade grounding mat is designed for grounding in conjunction with cathodically protected structures, and may itself be used as a component of galvanic cathodic protection. Also, the mats are commonly used in AC mitigation applications. The electrochemical potential of the product remains more active than that of steel, cast iron and other ferrous construction alloys, as any zinc anode would be, and provides the additional benefit of its physical design and improved grounding of the structure through the reduced resistance offered by its unique design.

When the easy-to-install ZincMat® is electrically connected to the protected structure, the galvanic cell formed protects the steel rather than corrode the structure. Other anodes in the system operate in concert with the grounding mat for improved CP anode current output.
